Fundraising Toolkit

Ready to plan something bigger? Need some help getting started? Our Fundraising Toolkit includes everything you need to organize your community fundraiser—from timelines to publicity tips and sample materials.
  1. Form a planning committee. Bring together a group of enthusiastic, dedicated people and select your fundraiser. Need an idea? Here are some options to consider:
    • Host a sporting event at your school and donate proceeds from admission and/or canteen sales.
    • Order breast cancer awareness shirts, socks, or other items. Host a pink sale and subsequent event and make attendance free to those who wear their pink purchase. Donate a portion of pink proceeds.
    • Arrange for a cookie dough, gift wrap or other item sale. Donate a portion of proceeds.
    • You will want to reach out to school administrators, coaches, or teachers to ask for permission and guidelines on hosting an event. A sample letter is available for download.
  2. Develop a budget. Try to identify all the expenses involved with your event (invitations, postage, rental space, signage, food and catering, promotional materials, website, advertising, etc.). Then, think about sources of funds, and people and companies you know who may be able to donate products (food, equipment) or services (like design, printing.) to reduce your costs. This will help keep your costs down, which is something everyone will appreciate. We encourage you to maintain fundraising costs at 20 percent of your budget.
  3. Develop an event timeline. Plan a publicity strategy for your event.
  4. Schedule the event. Select a time that is convenient for those who will be attending. Check local community calendars for conflicting events.
  5. Collect all funds. We ask that all event proceeds designated for The DONNA Foundation be submitted within 30 days after your event ends.
  6. Say thank you! Sending thank-you letters, notes or e-mails to everyone who participated in or supported your event shows your appreciation and reinforces their goodwill about supporting The DONNA Foundation.
  1. Decide on your fundraising method. Some possibilities include:
    • Choose a date and donate the day’s proceeds or a designated percentage.
    • Host a pink event. Stock up on a pink item and host a pink sale, donating the proceeds or a designated percentage.
    • Offer a discount to patrons who mention The DONNA Foundation and donate proceeds or a designated percentage.
    • Select a good or service to raffle and donate the proceeds from the raffle.
  2. Apply for approval for your event. Now that you have a game plan, fill out the application for approval. A team member will get back to you within two business days of submission.
  3. Schedule the event. Select a time that is appropriate and convenient for those who will be attending. Be sure to check local community calendars for conflicting events.
  4. Collect all funds. We ask that all event proceeds designated for The DONNA Foundation be submitted within 30 days after your event ends.
