Vernice’s Story

“My oncology surgeon had told me after I had my double mastectomy, she said. “Even though you don’t have breast tissue, you still need to check like you have breast tissue.” Check your breast, it is very important. Well, my journey started April of 2018. I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. I found my own breast cancer. I found the lump doing my own self breast examination. I was a person who really didn’t do it every month and I’m glad I did because that’s when I found my tumor.

More knowledge is power. Sometimes you may not get a lot of the information so sharing stories, you could learn from it, absolutely. There are three vaccination trials. One is for triple negative and I was lined up for the vaccination trial. Just two weeks ago I was told that my cancer had come back. I’m going to beat it just like Donna Deegan did. She herself is a triple-negative breast cancer survivor, three times, so she’s a beacon of light for me. Once I’m clear with everything, then I get to go on that vaccination trial, so I’m looking forward to that. But I’ve been down this road so I know what to expect. Sometimes you have to go through treatments in order to get better.”
