What is a Golf Marathon? An unbelievable day of camaraderie where golfers of all skill levels are sponsored to play 100 holes in one day to positively impact the lives of cancer patients and their families.

Launched in New England in 2005, more than $5 Million has been raised through GFC’s Golf Marathon, with $850,000 (and counting) raised in 2024 by golfers representing 14 nonprofits.

What is a Beneficiary Partner? An organization invited to recruit golfers to participate in GFC’s Golf Marathon on behalf of their mission.

  • The Beneficiary Partner receives 100% of the funds raised by their golfers
  • Fundraising Expectations: $3,000 per individual golfer
  • $1,500 per junior golfer (25 years old & under)
  • Golf Fights Cancer covers all expenses related to the 2024 event – including cost of golf, donation transaction fees, food & beverage, registration gifts & prizes
  • Golf Fights Cancer provides all golfers with a fundraising page and resources to support their crowdfunding efforts – including an event newsletter and individual coaching

What are the characteristics of a Golf Marathoner?

  • Golfers of all skill levels – from those who play only a few times a season to scratch golfers
  • Golfers of all ages – over the years participants have ranged from elementary school aged through retirees
  • Golfers who have been impacted by cancer, either personally or through a family member/friend, and are passionate about making a difference

How do you play 100 holes of golf in one day? The goal of the day is to play as many holes as possible and have a whole lot of fun while doing it!

  • This is not a day to shoot a personal best, in fact, golfers will not be keeping score
  • Holes aren’t necessarily played in sequence. Golfers are assigned a starting hole and can then scatter and play any hole as they wish (even repeating a circuit)
  • Participants have the option to play two golf balls per hole with preferred lies, and count both towards their tally
  • Putts ‘inside the leather’ are gimmies
  • Shotgun start at 7:15am, group lunch from 11:30am – 12:30pm, golf finished by 5pm

Golf Fights Cancer (GFC) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that harnesses the passion and collective fundraising power of the golf community to make tangible differences across the cancer community. Focusing on collaboration, funding stewardship, and amplifying impact, GFC makes targeted donations for services, equipment, research, and/or amenities that make an immediate positive impact on treatment and the experience for both the patient and family. To date, we’ve granted $13 Million in funding to over 90 different cancer-related charities.
